Sometimes I feel like the only girl who is clueless about manicures…

For the past couple of months I’ve felt personally victimised by people with amazing manicured nails.

From hellogiggles and their Nails of the Day to the magazines and blogs I follow on twitter, everywhere  I go I’m bombarded by pictures of nails. But not just simple one colour designs. Oh no! I’m talking about beautifully detailed, multi colour nails that are often covered in sparkly things that look strangely delicious…

The reason I feel personally victimised is because I’m slightly jealous of their amazing designs; especially since I’d spent nineteen years of my life convincing myself that I was being super good at nail painting by using two colours to paint stripes on each nail.  However, I’ve now been forced to face a reality that I’ve been trying to hide from, I’m rubbish at painting nails.

I know what you’re all thinking, why don’t you just go to a nail salon? The simple answer is I can’t afford it and even when I do have a spare £20 lying around my first instinct is to buy clothes or crafting equipment.

At the moment my nails are chipped and covered in super glue which makes me slightly ashamed of them. I guess when it comes down to it if I actually want the nails I desire, I’m going to have to part with a lot of money.

So, with that being said, I think I’ll just paint over my nails to hide the super glue stains and be proud of my one coloured nails! (while continuing to be extremely jealous of everyone elses cool nail art)

Are you as clueless about nails as I am or are you a nail art connoisseur?

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blogs. I came over to see what you were up to. Hmmm. the nail thing. When I was a lot younger it was super important (to me) to have perfectly painted nails (and long nails) and I was go as far as repairing them with tissue and super glue if they broke. I think back to how much time I spent on it. WOW! It has been a few decades since I have painted my nails. All the gardening and yard work, etc would certainly ruin a nice paint job (or work of art these days) I think the striped paint job you put on y ours would be just fine. Don’t try to keep up with the Jonese! There are so many other things to spend you hard earned money on!

  3. Glad I’m not the only one, I feel a little better about my nails now! 🙂 And I’m starting to think that I’d probably hate having perfect nails as I enjoy getting crafty and making a mess without having to worry about breaking or chipping a nail!

  4. Don’t worry, people who do lots of fun stuff like playing sport, making craft and performing puppetry can’t have nice nails. Therefore un-fancy nails are cool. Q.E.D.
